Now I didn’t expect the party to fight or kill all of Durnn’s forces or at least not at one time. You want to make your adventures challenging for the group but not over whelming. I did this for two reasons, one is the group is all 3rd level now due to back stories, role playing, & combat while in the Citadel. So for DM’s that may read this and might DM the Sunless Citadel, I used the Hobgoblin Chieftain build from the Monster Manual which made him tougher than in the adventure, I also doubled the amount of Hobgoblins and tripled the amount of Goblins. So the last 2 sessions the group dealt with Durnn and his goblin band. No one seems bored and everyone is into the adventure.

It’s perfect to have a conflict or two in the session, it keeps the group focused because the players know they only have so much time to game. Don’t get me wrong I still do prep work and study my notes from what the group did last, but it’s way less intense compared to my Saturday group prep time and creation. I love the Wednesday night group, it’s a lot of fun DMing and it’s great having easy to run pre-made adventures where I don’t have to think to much to run the story.
